Quick Course Guide
The Qualsafe Level 2 Award in Working at Height (RQF) is an Ofqual-regulated qualification designed to develop essential knowledge and awareness of safe working at height. It forms part of the Qualsafe Health and Safety suite, with its qualification and learning outcomes based on good-practice recommendations from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
The qualification focuses on the fundamental principles required to recognise, assess and control risks associated with working at height. Learners develop an understanding of relevant working at height legislation and regulations, including legal responsibilities, employer and employee duties, competent persons and the potential consequences of non-compliance.
Key areas of learning include safe working practices, hazard and risk identification, the hierarchy of control measures, risk assessment, rescue planning and emergency considerations. Learners also explore how weather conditions, fragile surfaces, falling objects, the working environment and other people working at height can affect workplace safety.
The qualification also develops knowledge of working-at-height equipment, including considerations for selecting appropriate equipment, inspection requirements and essential safety precautions when using equipment such as ladders, step ladders and harnesses. It also highlights the importance of identifying and reporting defective equipment.
The qualification comprises the mandatory unit Principles of Working at Height and provides a structured foundation for understanding how working-at-height activities can be planned and controlled more safely. Successful learners receive a Qualsafe certificate, with certificate validity capable of being verified through Qualsafe’s online verification system.
