The Qualsafe Level 2 Award in Principles of COSHH (RQF) is a regulated Level 2 vocational qualification designed to give learners a foundational understanding of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) requirements and the safe management of hazardous substances in the workplace. Qualsafe Awards is a UK awarding organisation recognised and regulated by relevant UK qualification regulators, and the qualification specification identifies Ofqual among the regulatory bodies relevant to Qualsafe’s qualifications.
The qualification is intended for employees and individuals who work, or intend to work, in environments where hazardous substances may be present, including sectors such as healthcare, manufacturing, cleaning, transport, utilities and offices. It is therefore relevant to both UK learners and international learners seeking structured knowledge of workplace COSHH principles.
The course focuses on four key learning areas: legal duties relating to hazardous substances; hazards, risks and routes of exposure; the role of risk assessment and the hierarchy of control; and precautions and procedures for controlling hazardous substances safely. Learners also develop awareness of common COSHH symbols, relevant safety information and procedures for incidents involving hazardous substances.
The qualification comprises one mandatory unit, Principles of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health. The unit carries 1 credit and 5 guided learning hours, with assessment through a theory-based multiple-choice question paper.
On completion, learners can progress to related Level 2 qualifications in health and safety, risk assessment or working at height, or to Level 3 qualifications such as Health and Safety in the Workplace and Risk Assessment, depending on their learning and professional objectives.
The Qualsafe Level 2 Award in Principles of COSHH (RQF) is a regulated qualification accredited on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF). The qualification has a Total Qualification Time (TQT) of 5 hours and 4 Guided Learning Hours (GLH).
Assessment for the Qualsafe Level 2 Award in Principles of COSHH (RQF) is assignment-based, enabling learners to demonstrate their understanding of the principles of controlling substances hazardous to health and the associated workplace safety requirements.
To achieve the qualification, learners must successfully complete one mandatory unit.
