Qualification Structure

The Qualifi Level 4 Diploma in Law is an Ofqual-regulated qualification accredited on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF). The qualification has a Total Qualification Time (TQT) of 1200 hours and 720 Guided Learning Hours (GLH), with 120 credits.

Assessment for the Qualifi Level 4 Diploma in Law is assignment-based. Learner work is assessed in accordance with Qualifi assessment and quality assurance requirements to ensure that learners demonstrate the required knowledge, understanding and application of legal principles.

To achieve the qualification, learners must successfully complete all four mandatory units.

• Understand the principles of formation of agreements, including offers, invitations to treat, acceptance and consideration.
• Understand the rules governing the content of a contract, including contractual terms, representations, conditions, warranties and innominate terms.

• Understand how a contract can be discharged, including termination, breach and frustration.
• Understand the remedies available for breach of contract, including damages and the different approaches to assessing damages.

2. Criminal Law

By the end of this unit, learners will be able to:

• Understand the aims and general principles of criminal law.
• Understand the elements of offences against the person.
• Understand the principles relating to property offences.
• Understand the general principles of inchoate offences.
• Understand the nature and application of criminal defences.

3. Legal Methods

By the end of this unit, learners will be able to:

• Understand the different sources of law.
• Understand the principles and approaches to legal interpretation.
• Understand the structure and operation of the legal profession, judiciary, jury and magistrates.
• Understand the civil and criminal justice systems and alternative dispute resolution.
• Develop legal writing and mooting skills and apply legal principles to factual scenarios.

4. Public Law

By the end of this unit, learners will be able to:

• Understand the key features, history and origins of the UK constitution.
• Understand the meaning and consequences of the separation of powers.
• Understand the rule of law and parliamentary sovereignty.
• Understand the composition and operation of the UK legislature and governments.
• Understand the nature, scope and procedures of judicial review.
