The ProQual Level 3 Diploma in Welding Construction Pipework is an industry-specific, Ofqual-regulated qualification developed for individuals working within the specialised field of welding and construction pipework. Awarded by ProQual Awarding Body and accredited on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), the qualification provides formal recognition of occupational competence within demanding construction and engineering environments.
Designed around practical workplace competence, the qualification enables a learner to demonstrate the technical knowledge, safety awareness and professional capabilities required for welding construction pipework. Its scope encompasses essential areas such as safe working practices, hazard identification, emergency response, interpretation of welding procedures and specifications, effective workplace relationships, and specialist pipe-joining techniques. These competencies are particularly relevant to construction, engineering, fabrication, mechanical services and industrial pipework environments where precision, safety and compliance are critical.
The ProQual Level 3 Diploma in Welding Construction Pipework places strong emphasis on applying knowledge and skills within a real working environment. This competence-based approach helps a learner demonstrate the ability to perform occupational responsibilities effectively while meeting recognised workplace standards. It is particularly suitable for developing credible evidence of welding expertise, strengthening professional competence and supporting progression within the wider construction, fabrication and engineering sectors.
The ProQual Level 3 Diploma in Welding Construction Pipework is an Ofqual-regulated qualification accredited on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and published on Ofqual’s Register of Qualifications. The qualification is awarded by ProQual Awarding Body, while the regulatory body is the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual).
The qualification has a Total Qualification Time (TQT) of 558 hours, including 483 Guided Learning Hours (GLH). It is assessed on a Pass/Fail basis. Assessment is competence-based and takes place within a real working environment, with evidence gathered through a portfolio. This may include assignments, projects and reports, alongside other appropriate workplace evidence. Assessment is internally conducted and verified by centre staff, with external quality assurance carried out by ProQual Verifiers.
To achieve the ProQual Level 3 Diploma in Welding Construction Pipework, a learner must successfully complete all four mandatory units plus two optional units selected from the available specialist welding units. The optional pathways cover pipe joining through processes such as TIG, flux-cored, TIG/MMA, MMA and MIG/MAG welding.
