Qualification Structure

The ProQual Level 3 Award in Energy Management: Waste Management is an Ofqual-regulated qualification accredited on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF). The qualification has a Total Qualification Time (TQT) of 25 hours.

Assessment is assignment-based and conducted on a Pass/Fail basis. Assessments are internally assessed and verified by centre staff, with external quality assurance provided by ProQual Verifiers to ensure compliance with national quality and assessment standards.

To achieve the qualification, learners must successfully complete one mandatory unit.

2. Understand the financial advantages and disadvantages of an organisation’s waste stream
   • Explain the fiscal and reputational value of processing waste.
   • Explain the fiscal and reputational risks associated with landfill.
3. Understand the use of waste as a renewable resource
   • Describe processes for using waste as a resource, including anaerobic digestion of food waste.
   • Describe the processing of different waste streams, including recyclables, wastewater, unrecyclables, energy from waste, landfill, and hazardous or toxic waste.
4. Be able to undertake a basic audit of greenhouse gas emissions in the workplace
   • Identify greenhouse gas emissions associated with waste processes, including sorting, transportation, processing and final use.
   • Understand greenhouse gas emissions associated with energy-from-waste and landfill.
