The ProQual Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Land Drilling Operations: Land Driller is an Ofqual-regulated qualification in the UK, positioned at Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) Level 2. It is designed for individuals working in the land drilling, geotechnical, and construction drilling industries who are responsible for carrying out drilling operations on site. The qualification focuses on developing practical competence required to operate drilling equipment safely and effectively in real working environments.
This Level 2 Land Driller course covers key areas such as preparing drilling equipment, setting up drilling sites, operating drilling machinery, and supporting ground investigation activities. Learners develop an understanding of drilling techniques, site procedures, and safe working practices in line with UK health and safety requirements, including the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974. The qualification is assessed in the workplace, ensuring that skills are demonstrated in real operational conditions.
The course supports individuals in building technical ability, operational awareness, and site safety competence required for land drilling activities. It is suitable for those working as drilling operatives within construction, geotechnical engineering, and environmental investigation sectors, providing a structured pathway to demonstrate occupational competence in land drilling operations.
The ProQual Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Land Drilling Operations: Land Driller is an Ofqual-regulated qualification accredited on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), designed to recognise the knowledge, skills and occupational competence of individuals working in land drilling operations. The qualification has a Total Qualification Time (TQT) of 570 hours and 177 Guided Learning Hours (GLH).
The awarding body for this qualification is ProQual Awarding Body, while the regulatory body is the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual). The qualification specification has been approved by the Welsh Government for use by centres in Wales and by the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) for use by centres in Northern Ireland. It is accredited onto the RQF and provides a progression route to discipline-related qualifications within the construction sector.
The qualification is competence-based and assessed on a Pass/Fail basis. Assessment is assignment-based and evidence-based, requiring the learner to build a portfolio demonstrating achievement of the required learning outcomes and assessment criteria. Evidence may include assessor observations, assignments, projects, reports, professional discussions, witness testimonies, work products, worksheets, questioning records and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
For the Land Driller pathway, the qualification requires a minimum of 53 credits, including mandatory units and the specified pathway requirements. Assessment is internally conducted and verified by appropriately qualified centre staff, with external quality assurance provided by ProQual verifiers to maintain assessment quality and compliance with the qualification requirements.
