Quick Course Guide

The Focus Awards Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (RQF) is an occupational qualification designed for individuals who assess occupational competence and vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in workplace, classroom, workshop or other training environments. It is listed within the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and focuses on developing practical competence in vocational assessment.

The qualification covers three mandatory areas: understanding the principles and practices of assessment, assessing occupational competence in the work environment, and assessing vocational skills, knowledge and understanding. Learners develop the ability to plan assessment activities, select appropriate assessment methods, gather and evaluate evidence, make sound assessment decisions, provide feedback and maintain effective assessment practice.

Assessment is internally conducted through a portfolio of evidence, allowing learners to demonstrate achievement through appropriate evidence such as assessor observations, witness testimony, assignments, projects, reports, questioning records, learner products and other relevant assessment materials.

The qualification is particularly relevant to vocational assessors, workplace assessors, trainers, tutors and professionals involved in competency-based education and training. Its occupational focus makes it suitable for learners seeking to strengthen their assessment practice and demonstrate competence within vocational learning environments.

For progression, learners may consider relevant Level 4 internal quality assurance qualifications, subject to the requirements of the receiving qualification or provider.
