The NOCN Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement is a vocational qualification designed for individuals developing professional competence in assessment across both workplace and non-workplace learning environments. The qualification supports the knowledge, skills and practical assessment capabilities required to assess occupational competence as well as vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in settings such as classrooms, workshops and training environments.

The qualification carries 15 credits, with a Total Qualification Time (TQT) of 150 hours, including 84 Guided Learning Hours (GLH). It consists of three mandatory components: Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment, Assess Vocational Skills, Knowledge and Understanding, and Assess Occupational Competence in the Work Environment. All three components must be achieved to complete the qualification.

Assessment is based on an internally set and internally assessed portfolio of evidence. Evidence must demonstrate achievement against the relevant assessment requirements and should be valid, authentic, current, sufficient and reliable. This approach enables the assessment process to reflect practical competence and professional assessment practice rather than relying solely on examinations.

There are no formal entry requirements, although NOCN advises that a Level 2 qualification is beneficial. Learner access to appropriate assessment opportunities and relevant resources is required. The qualification can support progression into roles such as Vocational Assessor, Skills Coach, Apprenticeship Assessor and Training Officer, as well as further study in internal quality assurance and learning and development.
