Quick Course Guide
The Qualsafe Level 2 Award in Fire Safety (RQF) is a regulated vocational qualification designed for individuals who have, or are expected to have, specific fire safety responsibilities in the workplace, including designated fire wardens and fire marshals. It provides structured knowledge of workplace fire hazards, risk control, fire safety management and the responsibilities associated with supporting safe evacuation and emergency arrangements.
The qualification consists of one mandatory unit covering the principles of fire safety. Key areas include understanding common causes of workplace fires, the fire triangle, hazards and products of combustion, fire spread, fire risk assessment, prevention measures, means of escape, fire detection and alarm systems, firefighting equipment, and the respective duties of employers, employees and nominated fire wardens.
With a Total Qualification Time (TQT) of 7 hours and 6 Guided Learning Hours (GLH), the qualification provides a focused route to developing foundational workplace fire safety knowledge. It can be relevant across sectors where employees have designated fire safety responsibilities, including commercial, industrial, healthcare, education, hospitality and facilities environments.
The qualification can also provide a foundation for further study in fire safety, risk assessment and broader occupational health and safety. Its regulated RQF status makes it distinct from informal workplace fire awareness training and provides a formal qualification framework for learners seeking recognised fire safety education.
