Quick Course Guide
The Qualsafe Level 2 Award in Principles of Risk Assessment (RQF) is a regulated Level 2 qualification designed to provide learners with a clear foundation in workplace risk assessment. It develops an understanding of why risk assessments are necessary, how workplace hazards and risks are defined, and how risk assessment contributes to the prevention of accidents and work-related ill health.
The qualification covers the moral, legal and economic reasons for preventing workplace accidents and ill health, alongside key risk assessment terminology such as hazard, risk, accident, near miss, risk control hierarchy, suitable and sufficient, and competence. Learners also develop an understanding of the legal requirements for risk assessment, a basic process for undertaking assessments, methods for prioritising risks, and the importance of recording and communicating assessment findings.
The qualification consists of one mandatory unit, The Principles of Risk Assessment, with 6 Guided Learning Hours (GLH) and a Total Qualification Time (TQT) of 7 hours. It is particularly relevant to employees, supervisors, managers and individuals who contribute to workplace health and safety or need a foundational understanding of risk assessment.
For learners seeking to strengthen their workplace safety knowledge, this qualification provides a structured starting point for further study in occupational health and safety, risk management and related disciplines. It can also support individuals who need to participate more effectively in workplace risk assessment activities and safety discussions.
