The ProQual Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Management (Construction) – Highways Maintenance and Repair is a nationally recognised, work-based qualification designed for experienced construction professionals working in site management roles within the highways maintenance and repair sector. The qualification develops and formally recognises the practical competence, management knowledge and professional skills required to manage complex highway construction, maintenance and repair activities effectively.

The programme covers essential areas of construction site management, including planning highways maintenance and repair activities, managing health, safety and welfare, environmental management and sustainability, monitoring project activities, controlling quality standards, managing programmes, coordinating resources, controlling project costs and managing workforce performance.

Assessment is evidence-based and assignment-based, allowing learner to demonstrate occupational competence through workplace evidence, practical documentation and relevant assessment activities. The qualification is internally assessed and verified, with external quality assurance undertaken by ProQual.

The awarding organisation for this qualification is ProQual Awarding Body, while the regulatory body is the Ofqual. It is also endorsed by CITB, the sector body for construction. The qualification is accredited onto the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and published on Ofqual’s Register of Regulated Qualifications, supporting recognised professional development and career progression within highways maintenance, repair and construction site management.

To enrol in the ProQual Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Management (Construction) – Highways Maintenance and Repair, learner should meet the following entry requirements:

  • Minimum Age: Learner should normally be 18 years or above due to the occupational and managerial nature of the qualification.
  • Educational Background: No specific formal academic qualifications are required by ProQual. However, a suitable educational or vocational background in construction, civil engineering, highways or a related field can be beneficial.
  • Work Experience: Learner should be working in a relevant construction site management role and have sufficient responsibility within highways maintenance and repair to generate workplace evidence and demonstrate occupational competence.
  • Prior Knowledge: Learner should have practical knowledge of construction site operations, highways maintenance and repair activities, health and safety requirements, resource coordination, quality control and site management procedures.

ProQual Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Management (Construction) – Highways Maintenance and Repair requires all mandatory units plus two optional units. Additional units are not mandatory and do not count towards achievement of the qualification.

  7. Planning the preparation of the site for the project in the workplace
  8. Monitoring project activities in the workplace
  9. Ensuring that work activities and resources meet project work requirements in the workplace
  10. Organising, controlling and monitoring supplies of materials in the workplace
  11. Identifying and maintaining communication systems and organisational procedures in the workplace
  12. Controlling project progress against agreed quality standards in the workplace
  13. Controlling project progress against agreed programmes in the workplace
  14. Managing your personal development in the workplace
  15. Planning highways maintenance and repair activities in the workplace
  16. Identifying, allocating and planning the deployment and use of plant, equipment or machinery in the workplace
  17. Controlling project quantities and costs in the workplace
  18. Evaluating feedback and making recommendations in the workplace

  8. Managing the installation, maintenance, monitoring and removal of temporary works in the workplace

Additional Units – Not Mandatory

  1. Supervising activities to traditional and heritage buildings and structures in the workplace
  2. Supervising tunnelling activities in the workplace
  3. Planning tunnelling activities in the workplace
  4. Planning the installation of retrofit works in the workplace
  5. Managing installation, commissioning and handover of retrofit works in the workplace

The ProQual Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Management (Construction) – Highways Maintenance and Repair is suitable for learner who:

  • Is currently working in construction site management or a related supervisory role.
  • Works within the highways maintenance and repair sector.
  • Has practical experience managing highway construction or maintenance activities.
  • Wants to demonstrate existing occupational competence through a recognised qualification.
  • Is responsible for planning, coordinating or monitoring site activities.
  • Manages health, safety, welfare and wellbeing requirements on construction sites.
  • Oversees environmental and sustainability requirements.
  • Coordinates workforce, materials, plant, equipment and other site resources.
  • Monitors project progress against agreed programmes and quality standards.
  • Has responsibility for controlling project quantities and costs.
