The ProQual Level 3 Award in the Inspection and Testing of Fire Stopping Installations is a nationally recognised, industry-specific qualification designed to establish competence in the professional inspection and testing of fire stopping systems. Regulated by Ofqual and accredited on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), the qualification provides a structured foundation for understanding how fire stopping installations are evaluated against current fire regulations and applicable standards.

The qualification focuses on critical passive fire protection measures, including penetration sealing systems, linear gap seals, and cavity barriers. Learners develop a detailed understanding of different fire stopping types, their applications, their importance within buildings, and the regulations and standards governing their installation and inspection.

A key emphasis is placed on understanding appropriate inspection and testing procedures, applying pass/fail criteria, interpreting relevant regulatory requirements, and responding appropriately when an installation fails inspection. Learners are also required to understand how appropriate advice should be communicated to building owners or clients following inspection failure.

The programme combines technical knowledge with competence-based assessment, requiring learners to demonstrate their ability to inspect and test fire stopping installations while maintaining accurate and detailed inspection and testing records. Successful completion demonstrates achievement of the qualification’s defined Level 3 standards.
