The ProQual Level 5 Award in Fire Risk Assessment is an advanced, Ofqual-regulated qualification developed for professionals seeking to strengthen their expertise in assessing and managing fire risks in high-risk buildings. Positioned at Level 5 on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), the qualification has been designed in line with the competency requirements of BS 8674:2025 – Built Environment Framework for Competence of Individual Fire Risk Assessors, ensuring its relevance to current industry standards and regulatory expectations.
This qualification provides a comprehensive understanding of advanced fire risk assessment principles, enabling learners to evaluate complex fire hazards, interpret fire safety legislation, examine building construction and fire protection systems, and develop evidence-based recommendations that support compliance and risk reduction. It covers the planning, implementation, and evaluation of fire risk assessments for high-risk premises while emphasising structured reporting, technical analysis, and the application of recognised assessment methodologies. Learners also explore the management of fire safety strategies, the assessment of specialist risks, and the importance of continuous professional development within the fire safety sector.
Assessment is portfolio-based, allowing learners to demonstrate both theoretical knowledge and practical competence through documented evidence, professional discussions, observations, and workplace-based assessment activities. This qualification reflects recognised professional practice and supports the development of high standards in advanced fire risk assessment.
The ProQual Level 5 Award in Fire Risk Assessment is a flexible qualification. Unlike the Diploma, which requires completion of all four mandatory units, the Award requires the learner to complete a minimum of one unit selected from the approved Level 5 units.
The ProQual Level 5 Award in Fire Risk Assessment is an RQF Level 5 qualification that provides 100 Total Qualification Time (TQT) hours, including 80 Guided Learning Hours (GLH). The qualification is identified by the Qualification Number 610/7065/8 and is assessed through a portfolio of evidence, allowing learners to demonstrate their knowledge and competence against the required learning outcomes and assessment criteria. All assessments are internally assessed and verified by the approved centre, with external quality assurance carried out by ProQual, ensuring the qualification meets recognised regulatory and industry standards.
