The ProQual Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practices is a regulated qualification designed for professionals responsible for maintaining and leading the quality of assessment within an organisation or assessment centre. Awarded by ProQual AB, the qualification is accredited onto the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and regulated by Ofqual and CCEA Regulation.

The qualification develops the knowledge, practical competence and leadership capability required to plan internal quality assurance activities, monitor assessment practices, evaluate assessor performance, maintain consistent assessment decisions and support continuous improvement. It also covers information management, confidentiality, legal and organisational requirements, equality and diversity, reflective practice and professional development. The qualification consists of three mandatory units, with 115 guided learning hours and 170 total qualification time.

Assessment is assignment-based, with evidence focused on demonstrating the required knowledge, understanding and competence against the qualification’s learning outcomes and assessment criteria. The qualification specification requires valid, authentic and sufficient evidence, supported by workplace-based evidence where applicable.

This qualification is particularly relevant to internal quality assurance professionals who lead or coordinate a team of internal quality assurance staff. It provides a structured pathway for strengthening quality assurance leadership and assessment management capabilities. Candidates who achieve the ProQual Level 4 Award may also progress to the Level 4 Certificate or other related qualifications, including management-focused qualifications.
