Qualification Structure

The ProQual Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Surveying (Land Surveying) is an Ofqual-regulated qualification accredited on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF). It has a Total Qualification Time (TQT) of 170 hours, including 150 Guided Learning Hours (GLH), providing learners with a structured pathway to develop knowledge and practical competence in engineering and land surveying.

Assessment is assignment-based and completed on a Pass/Fail basis. Assignments are internally assessed and verified by centre staff, while external quality assurance is provided by ProQual Verifiers to ensure the qualification meets required quality and regulatory standards.

To achieve the qualification, learners must successfully complete five mandatory units.

• Know how to record, process, output, and present total station survey data.

Unit 4: Using Global Navigation Satellite Systems

• Understand GNSS theory, satellite geometry, and good practice when conducting observations.
• Know how GNSS is used in geospatial and engineering surveying.
• Understand the accuracy limitations of GNSS and when alternative surveying methods may be required.

Unit 5: Setting Out and Other Construction Related Survey Technologies

• Understand the basic concepts of 3D Building Information Modelling (BIM).
• Understand how construction drawings and coordinate systems are used for setting out.
• Know how to perform setting-out tasks using appropriate surveying equipment and techniques.
• Know how to carry out Original Ground Level (OGL) and as-built surveys.
• Understand the use of laser scanning technology in surveying.
• Understand the importance of utility detection surveys within construction environments.
