The ProQual Level 3 Award in Energy Management: Information & Communications Technology is a specialised UK qualification designed to develop practical knowledge and professional competence in managing the energy and water consumption associated with Information and Communications Technology (ICT). Awarded by ProQual Awarding Body, the qualification is suitable for professionals seeking to strengthen their expertise in ICT energy efficiency, sustainable technology management and organisational carbon reduction.
The qualification focuses on understanding and evaluating the energy and water usage of ICT equipment and infrastructure within the workplace. A learner develops knowledge of computing-device power footprints, ICT cooling systems, power monitoring equipment, energy measurement, ICT equipment surveys, power meters and software-based monitoring tools. It also addresses different ICT infrastructures and their associated energy requirements.
A key element of the ProQual Level 3 Award in Energy Management: Information & Communications Technology is the ability to model ICT infrastructures, estimate power and water consumption, conduct internal audits, assess infrastructure improvements and understand how system design influences energy performance. The qualification also develops the learner’s ability to estimate the carbon footprint of ICT infrastructure, including outsourced and off-site services. These competencies support organisations seeking more energy-efficient, cost-effective and environmentally responsible ICT operations.
The ProQual Level 3 Award in Energy Management: Information & Communications Technology is an Ofqual-regulated qualification designed to develop specialist knowledge and skills in managing energy consumption associated with ICT systems and infrastructure. The qualification has a Total Qualification Time (TQT) of 25 hours.
Assessment is conducted on a Pass/Fail basis and is internally assessed and verified by centre staff, with external quality assurance provided by ProQual Verifiers to ensure assessment decisions meet the required qualification standards. A learner must provide evidence demonstrating achievement of all relevant learning outcomes and assessment criteria.
To achieve the qualification, a learner must successfully complete one mandatory unit.
Core Study Units
The ProQual Level 3 Award in Energy Management: Information & Communications Technology is suitable for a learner who wants to develop practical knowledge of ICT energy consumption, power efficiency, infrastructure assessment and carbon-footprint management. Based on the competencies covered in the official unit, it is particularly relevant to:
The qualification is especially relevant where a role involves measuring ICT energy use, modelling ICT infrastructure, estimating power consumption, conducting internal assessments and evaluating the carbon footprint of ICT operations.
