The ProQual Level 2 Award in Introduction to Well Control and Equipment for Oil and Gas is an internationally relevant introductory qualification designed for individuals entering or developing their knowledge within the oil and gas, drilling, well intervention and associated energy sectors. It provides a structured foundation in the principles of well control, drilling operations, well completion, workover activities, well integrity and pressure-control equipment.
The qualification develops an understanding of how hydrocarbons are formed and explored, alongside the fundamental procedures used throughout the well lifecycle. Key areas include drilling and workover operations, preventive well control, well control parameters, blowout preventers (BOPs), choke and kill manifolds, BOP control systems, HPHT equipment, inspection and testing requirements, and well intervention techniques such as wireline and coiled tubing.
Particular emphasis is placed on safe well operations, pressure containment and maintaining well integrity in accordance with relevant industry standards and established practices. This makes the qualification valuable for personnel seeking foundational knowledge before progressing into more advanced technical roles in drilling and well operations.
The Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) is the single framework for regulated qualifications, and the regulatory body for this qualification is the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual). This qualification is accredited onto the RQF.
The ProQual Level 2 Award in Introduction to Well Control and Equipment for Oil and Gas is an Ofqual-regulated qualification accredited on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF). The qualification has a Total Qualification Time (TQT) of 50 hours, including 50 Guided Learning Hours (GLH).
Assessment is assignment-based only and conducted on a Pass/Fail basis. Assignments are internally assessed and verified by centre staff, with external quality assurance provided by ProQual Verifiers.
To achieve the qualification, learners must successfully complete one mandatory unit.
