Quick Course Guide
The OAL Level 3 Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is an Ofqual-regulated vocational qualification designed to develop practical knowledge and competence for managing health and safety responsibilities in the workplace. Awarded by Occupational Awards Limited (OAL), the qualification focuses on applying occupational health and safety good practice rather than simply developing theoretical understanding. The qualification specification identifies workplace risk assessment, safe working procedures, incident investigation and the promotion of a positive health and safety culture as key areas of learning.
The qualification is regulated by Ofqual and has qualification number 610/0888/6. Its regulatory information identifies England as the country in which it is offered. It is also accredited by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), with successful completion meeting the academic requirements for Associate (AIOSH) or Technical (Tech IOSH) membership, subject to the relevant IOSH requirements.
Learners develop skills across seven mandatory areas, including managing personal actions to reduce workplace risks, developing and monitoring procedures for safe work operations, promoting a positive health and safety culture, conducting workplace risk assessments, investigating health and safety incidents and complaints, and supervising workplace health, safety and welfare. Assessment is based on a portfolio of evidence, allowing learners to demonstrate knowledge and competence through workplace-related evidence, assignments, projects, observations and questioning.
For UK and international learners seeking structured occupational health and safety knowledge, the OAL Level 3 Certificate provides a regulated framework for understanding how health and safety principles can be applied, monitored and improved within real workplace environments.
