Quick Course Guide
The ABMA Education Level 5 Diploma in Community Development (RQF) is a vocational qualification designed to develop learners’ knowledge and understanding of complex community development issues and their application in practical community settings. It builds on Level 4 learning or equivalent workplace knowledge and focuses on more specialised areas of community development.
The qualification consists of five mandatory units: Human Rights, Politics and Legislation; Managing Health in Communities; Social Enterprises; Managing Culture in Communities; and Managing Community Projects. Together, these units address important social, political, health, cultural, enterprise and project-management dimensions of community development.
The qualification is regulated by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) and benchmarked to the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF). ABMA Education also states that its Community Development qualifications are benchmarked against relevant UK and European frameworks, including the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework, Framework for Higher Education Qualifications and European Qualifications Framework.
Learning is designed to combine academic knowledge with vocational application. The qualification encourages learners to examine community issues critically, understand different community contexts, develop relevant knowledge and apply learning to community-focused situations. Its curriculum also provides a foundation for progression to Level 6 Community Development or other relevant higher-level learning, subject to the requirements of the receiving institution.
