Quick Course Guide
The ABMA Education Level 4 Diploma in Community Development (RQF) is a UK-regulated qualification designed to develop learners’ knowledge and understanding of how communities function, respond to challenges, engage stakeholders and support community development initiatives. It provides a structured academic and vocational foundation for learners interested in community-focused practice and related areas of social development.
The qualification is regulated by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) and sits within the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF). It carries 120 credits, with 1,200 Total Qualification Time (TQT) and 480 Guided Learning Hours (GLH). Assessment is assignment-based, allowing learners to demonstrate their understanding and application of the subject through structured academic work.
The programme consists of five core units: Introduction to Community Development; Local Challenges and Global Influences; Understanding Sociology, Community and Ideology; Working within the Community; and Promoting Investment in the Community. These units collectively address fundamental concepts of community development, social and global influences, sociological perspectives, community relationships, stakeholder engagement, community needs and investment approaches.
The qualification is relevant to learners in the UK and internationally who want to develop knowledge applicable to community-focused environments. It can support progression towards higher-level study in community development and related disciplines, while providing a foundation of knowledge relevant to community engagement, voluntary-sector activities, social development and community programme environments.
