The NOCN Level 4 Award in the External Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice is a vocational qualification designed for professionals responsible for externally assuring the quality and consistency of assessment within learning and development environments. The qualification develops the knowledge, understanding and practical competence required to perform the role of an External Quality Assurer (EQA), commonly known as an External Verifier.

The qualification carries 12 credits, with 75 Guided Learning Hours (GLH) and 120 Total Qualification Time (TQT). It consists of two mandatory Level 4 units: Understanding the Principles and Practices of Externally Assuring the Quality of Assessment and Externally Assure the Quality of Assessment.

The programme covers key aspects of external quality assurance, including reviewing assessment practices, evaluating evidence, monitoring assessment decisions, supporting consistency and maintaining required quality standards. Practical competence is assessed through evidence from the work environment, including preparation for and completion of at least two external centre visits. Assessment methods include observation, examination of work products and questioning, supported where appropriate by professional discussion, reflective accounts or witness testimony.
