The ProQual Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice is a vocational, competence-based qualification designed for professionals who have responsibility for managing, developing, implementing, and improving occupational health and safety practices within an organisation. Regulated by Ofqual and placed on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), the qualification provides a structured route for experienced health and safety personnel to formally demonstrate their occupational competence against defined professional standards.
The qualification covers the broader responsibilities associated with effective health and safety management, extending beyond basic hazard awareness and workplace inspections. Key areas include developing and implementing health and safety policies, promoting a positive safety culture, establishing effective communication systems, developing organisational competence, identifying and controlling workplace risks, and implementing proactive and reactive monitoring arrangements. It also addresses emergency response, health and safety review systems, and maintaining professional knowledge to support continual improvement.
As an NVQ-style competence-based qualification, assessment focuses on demonstrating practical occupational capability through authentic evidence rather than relying solely on conventional examinations. Evidence may include workplace observations, assignments, reports, professional discussions, witness testimonies, work products, questioning, and Recognition of Prior Learning where appropriate.
This makes the qualification particularly relevant to health and safety professionals seeking to strengthen their formal recognition, demonstrate competence in real workplace settings, and develop the strategic and operational capability required for effective occupational health and safety practice.
BCSP TSP® Pathway
The ProQual Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice provides a potential pathway towards the Transitional Safety Practitioner® (TSP®) designation through the Qualified Equivalent Program (QEP) of the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), subject to formal QEP recognition and all applicable BCSP eligibility requirements.
This pathway will be available exclusively to learners who register for the ProQual Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice through Inspire College of Technologies UK.
Eligibility for the TSP® designation will remain subject to the official BCSP QEP listing, applicable eligibility dates, and BCSP requirements in effect at the time of application.
