The ProQual Level 2 Award in Machinery Safety for Maintenance Engineers is a UK-regulated qualification designed to develop essential machinery safety knowledge for maintenance engineers working with industrial equipment and machinery. The qualification is accredited onto the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), with the regulatory framework overseen by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual).
This qualification provides a structured foundation in machinery safety legislation, hazard identification, risk assessment, risk reduction and safe maintenance practices. It addresses the responsibilities of machinery manufacturers, users and maintenance personnel throughout the machine lifecycle, helping the learner understand how effective safety controls can reduce workplace risks.
The ProQual Level 2 Award in Machinery Safety for Maintenance Engineers also introduces internationally recognised machinery safety principles, including BS EN ISO 12100:2010 and BS EN ISO 13849-1:2015. Key areas include mechanical hazards, machine safeguarding, inherently safer design, safety-related parts of control systems (SRP/CS), diagnostic coverage, categories, performance levels and validation.
Designed for maintenance engineering environments, the qualification supports stronger safety awareness, regulatory understanding and professional competence across engineering, manufacturing, oil and gas, and associated industrial sectors.
The ProQual Level 2 Award in Machinery Safety for Maintenance Engineers is an Ofqual-regulated qualification accredited on the RQF. The qualification has a Total Qualification Time (TQT) of 50 hours, including 50 Guided Learning Hours (GLH).
Assessment is assignment-based only and is conducted on a Pass/Fail basis. Assessments are internally assessed and verified by centre staff, with external quality assurance provided by ProQual Verifiers to ensure compliance with national qualification standards.
The learner must successfully complete one mandatory unit to achieve this qualification.
